Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL) Instructor

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) seeks a dedicated VESL Instructor to deliver group‑based English language instruction to adult refugees. You will help learners acquire vocational English and digital literacy skills that support their employability and integration.

Key responsibilities

• Teach Vocational English as a Second Language classes, including specialized tracks such as digital literacy, driving‑permit preparation, and child‑care licensing.
• Assess student progress, track attendance, and report data in line with grant requirements.
• Develop lesson plans and instructional materials in collaboration with the VESL Coordinator.
• Maintain accurate records of classroom attendance, homework completion, and other required metrics.
• Coordinate regularly with the Employment Training Supervisor, VESL Coordinator, Employment Specialists, and other staff.
• Participate in Workforce, VESL, and CFO meetings and staff development activities.
• Stay current on adult ESL pedagogical approaches and engagement strategies.

Required profile

• Passionate about supporting refugees and low‑income individuals.
• Ability to develop and adapt curriculum for adult learners.
• Strong organizational skills for tracking attendance and reporting.
• Willingness to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
