Public Relations Specialist

About the role

The Public Relations Specialist will join Saint Louis University’s communications team to shape and amplify the university’s story. You will craft proactive earned‑media strategies, write and distribute news, and build relationships with local, regional and national media outlets.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute earned‑media strategies that support institutional priorities, academic strengths and research achievements.
• Write, edit and distribute press releases, news stories and other content to media contacts.
• Cultivate and maintain relationships with journalists, pitch story ideas and coordinate interviews.
• Collaborate with faculty, staff and students to generate story ideas and prepare interview materials.
• Monitor media trends, track coverage and use analytics tools to evaluate performance.
• Support online news content, internal e‑newsletters, web pages and university publications.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism or a related field.
• At least 3 years of experience in public relations, communications or journalism.
• Exceptional writing and editing ability with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to translate complex academic topics into clear, compelling messages.
• Excellent organizational skills and capacity to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.

Required skills

• Proficiency in AP Style.
