Deputy Director of Programs

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Deputy Director of Programs to lead its Nigeria country program from Abuja. This senior position will shape and oversee high‑impact humanitarian programmes across health, nutrition, protection, education and economic recovery, ensuring they are data‑driven, results‑focused and aligned with IRC’s mission.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and manage program technical teams, grant management and monitoring & evaluation units.
• Develop, implement and monitor programme strategies, ensuring alignment with IRC’s three‑year action plan.
• Foster cross‑sector collaboration and inter‑departmental teamwork within the senior management team.
• Ensure ethics, integrity and safeguarding are embedded in all programme design and client interactions.
• Contribute to security risk analysis and planning, supporting a safe operating environment.
• Oversee data‑driven analysis, problem identification and solution development to improve programme outcomes.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian programme management, preferably in Nigeria or similar contexts.
• Proven ability to lead large, multidisciplinary teams and manage complex grant portfolios.
• Strong analytical mindset with experience using data to drive decisions and improve results.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder‑engagement skills.
• Commitment to IRC’s values, code of conduct and safeguarding standards.
