About the role

The University of British Columbia seeks a motivated Research Engineer/Technician to advance surface coating technology for environmental barrier applications. You will work in a university laboratory setting, focusing on metallic and ceramic coatings for ceramic matrix composites.

Key responsibilities

  • Conduct literature reviews and design experiments for environmental barrier coatings (EBCs).
  • Process metallic and ceramic EBCs using plasma spray technology.
  • Perform mechanical and thermal testing of coated specimens.
  • Characterize microstructures through optical and electron microscopy.
  • Prepare written and verbal project reports and interact regularly with industrial collaborators.

Required profile

  • Graduation from a technical college or institute with at least two years of related experience, or an equivalent education/experience mix.
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
