Psychiatry Consultant

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Psychiatry Consultant to deliver specialized psychiatric care to individuals with moderate to severe mental disorders in community and home settings. The role involves both direct clinical work and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive health support for vulnerable populations.

Key responsibilities

• Provide specialized psychiatric consultations and treatment to patients with moderate to severe mental disorders in community or home environments.
• Assess clients’ specific needs and develop individualized case management strategies.
• Collaborate daily with a psychologist, physician, and nurse during home visits to address physical and mental health.
• Offer basic medical consultation and treatment for acute and chronic conditions, referring to specialists when necessary.
• Conduct group psycho‑educational sessions and deliver psychological first aid, including house calls.
• Support the project pharmacist in managing psychotropic medications.
• Manage emergencies, make appropriate referrals, and participate in Ministry of Health case‑management meetings.
• Maintain accurate, confidential documentation and provide regular reports.
• Participate in supervision meetings and undertake additional tasks as directed by the supervisor.
