Plumbing Tutor

About the role

The Plumbing Tutor will lead learners through a practical pre‑apprenticeship programme that prepares them for careers in plumbing, gas fitting, and drain laying. Based at NZMA's purpose‑built Trades Campus, you will combine workshop demonstrations, classroom teaching, and real‑world projects to build student confidence and competence.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver engaging facilitation in workshops and classrooms.
• Provide pastoral care, monitor attendance, and support academic success.
• Teach core pre‑apprenticeship skills, including plumbing systems, gas theory, health and safety, plans, regulations, installation, soldering, welding, and brazing.
• Assist students in developing literacy, numeracy, and employability skills.
• Maintain compliance with NZMA policies, assessment guidelines, and safety standards.
• Contribute to resource development and continuous programme improvement.

Required profile

• Current PGD practising licence holder with up‑to‑date industry knowledge.
• Strong understanding of New Zealand plumbing standards, codes, and compliance requirements.
• Consistent safe work habits and professional on‑site conduct.
• Clear, confident communicator able to engage diverse learner groups.
• Mentoring or teaching experience is desirable but not essential.
