Mechanical Engineer Internship – Offshore Systems

About the role

Join SBM Offshore’s Mechanical Design Engineering Department in Monaco for a hands‑on internship focused on offshore mechanical systems. You will work alongside experienced engineers, gaining exposure to critical components such as swivel stacks, bogie wheel systems, and mooring connectors, while also visiting the Technology & Development Center near Nice.

Key responsibilities

• Learn the functional roles and design constraints of key offshore mechanical components.
• Apply design‑to‑cost and design‑for‑maintenance methodologies to improve existing systems.
• Perform preliminary hand calculations to screen design options.
• Conduct Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to assess strength, fatigue and deformation.
• Run kinematic and dynamic simulations using RecurDyn or equivalent software.
• Collaborate with manufacturing and cross‑disciplinary teams to develop innovative solutions.

Required profile

• Enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering program (Bachelor or Master level).
• Strong interest in offshore engineering and mechanical design.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• CATIA for 3D modelling and 2D drawings.
• ABAQUS for finite element analysis.
• Excel for hand calculations.
• Word for technical reporting.
• RecurDyn (or equivalent) for dynamic simulations.
• Basic knowledge of FEA and kinematic/dynamic simulation concepts.
