About the role
The University of Auckland is seeking a Lecturer or Senior Lecturer in Water Engineering to join its Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering. This permanent, full‑time position involves high‑quality teaching, research, and service across hydraulics, hydrology, river and coastal engineering.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver research‑informed, industry‑relevant teaching at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Design and continuously improve curricula to meet professional accreditation standards.
- Incorporate emerging technologies and sustainable practices into teaching and research activities.
- Supervise honours, master’s and doctoral research students.
- Establish and maintain a high‑impact research programme that attracts external funding.
- Publish in leading journals, contribute to design standards, and present at conferences.
- Engage with industry, government and technical societies to ensure relevance of research.
- Participate in departmental, faculty and university service roles.
Required profile
- PhD or equivalent in civil or environmental engineering with a focus on water engineering.
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching and curriculum development.
- Strong record of research publications and ability to secure external research funding.
- Experience supervising research students at honours, master’s and doctoral levels.
- Commitment to collaborative work with industry and professional bodies.

- Permanent full‑time contract (40 hours per week).
- Competitive salary range NZ$99,788 – NZ$158,904 per annum, dependent on experience.
