Lead Cost Estimator

About the role

As a Lead Cost Estimator at SBM Offshore, you will be responsible for delivering accurate cost estimates for defined project scopes, ensuring reliable financial tracking throughout project execution. You will provide the best cost view for systems, support bid strategies, and drive continuous improvement of estimating processes and tools.

Key responsibilities

• Collect and analyse cost and technical data from previous projects for knowledge and benchmarking.
• Maintain up‑to‑date cost databases.
• Acquire deep knowledge of products and project execution methods.
• Master and apply estimating techniques and governance standards.
• Identify and support improvements to tools and methods for higher quality estimates, benchmarking and reporting.
• Deliver estimates in a timely manner with the highest possible accuracy.
• Provide analysis and reporting to commercial and management teams.
• Ensure transparency and traceability of costs and underlying assumptions.
• Liaise with engineering, supply chain, construction and other disciplines, challenging inputs where necessary.
• Select the most appropriate estimating method, using shortcuts or benchmarks when justified.
• Coordinate, supervise and coach other estimators.
• Manage resources in line with project requirements.
• Interact with senior stakeholders, sales, clients and top management.
• Challenge requests and contribute to strategic decisions on bids and team organization.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Finance.
• Minimum 8‑10 years of cost estimating experience, primarily in the oil and gas industry.
