Internship – Nuclear Insights into Ocean Alkalinity

About the role

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) offers a six‑month internship in its Radioecology Laboratory in Monaco. The intern will support cutting‑edge research on Ocean Alkalinity Enhancement (OAE), a proposed method for atmospheric carbon removal, by investigating its ecological impacts on marine organisms using radiotracer and nuclear techniques.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and refine experimental protocols that employ radiotracer methods to assess OAE effects on marine biota.
• Conduct controlled laboratory experiments to monitor metal bioaccumulation associated with alkaline additives.
• Measure physiological responses of marine organisms to changes in seawater alkalinity.
• Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental data and observations.
• Assist in data analysis and preparation of scientific reports.

Required profile

• Current enrolment in a university degree program (e.g., environmental science, marine biology, nuclear engineering) or recent graduate.
• Strong interest in marine ecology, climate mitigation strategies, and nuclear analytical methods.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
