Head of Mission – Afghanistan

About the role

The Head of Mission will provide strategic leadership and overall management of La Chaîne de l’Espoir’s health programmes in Afghanistan. This senior position oversees the delivery of high‑quality medical and surgical care to the most vulnerable children and women across the country.

Key responsibilities

• Define and implement the mission’s strategic plan in alignment with the organisation’s global objectives.
• Lead and coordinate medical, paramedical and technical teams, including volunteer missions.
• Ensure the safety of staff and compliance with local regulations and security protocols.
• Manage partnerships with local authorities, the Aga Khan Development Network and other stakeholders.
• Oversee budgeting, resource allocation and reporting for all programme activities.
• Adapt programming to evolving humanitarian needs and health system challenges.

Required profile

• Proven experience in leading health programmes or humanitarian missions in complex environments.
• Strong leadership and management skills with a focus on staff safety and regulatory compliance.
• Ability to work collaboratively with local partners and international donors.
