About the role
The Patricia and Jim Hemak Endowed Professor in Nursing Simulation will lead the strategic planning, implementation, and evaluation of innovative simulation and immersive learning experiences across Saint Louis University’s nursing programs. This senior academic position shapes curriculum, supports interprofessional education, and integrates emerging technologies to enhance clinical competence.
Key responsibilities
- Design, deliver, and evaluate simulation‑based and immersive learning programs, including virtual reality platforms.
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of simulation labs and immersive technology spaces, managing equipment maintenance, inventory, and scheduling.
- Collaborate with faculty and course coordinators to integrate simulation curricula aligned with program outcomes.
- Partner with clinical sites to ensure simulations reflect current healthcare practices and standards.
- Manage budgets, staffing, and resource allocation for simulation initiatives.
- Develop, implement, and assess high‑fidelity simulation and other immersive modalities based on evidence‑based research and accreditation standards.
- Maintain simulation policies, procedures, and quality‑improvement processes, including safety and learner assessment.
- Provide faculty development in simulation pedagogy, debriefing, and immersive instructional design.
- Promote scholarly activity through research, grants, presentations, and publications.
- Evaluate learner outcomes and program effectiveness using established metrics.
- Stay current with technological advances and explore sustainability opportunities for the simulation center.
- Ensure compliance with national standards (e.g., INACSL, SSH) and accreditation guidelines (CCNE).
- Represent the Valentine School of Nursing in national and international simulation education networks.
Required profile
- Doctoral degree in nursing (DNP or PhD) or a related healthcare education field.
- Demonstrated experience in nursing simulation, immersive learning, or related educational technology.
- Proven leadership in curriculum development and interprofessional education.
- Experience managing budgets, staff, and simulation facilities.
- Record of scholarly activity such as research, publications, or grant acquisition.
