Employment Specialist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks an Employment Specialist to help newly arrived refugee clients achieve self‑sufficiency through employment. You will provide job‑readiness training, career coaching, and employer connections while guiding clients through the application and placement process.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct intake and assessments for employment‑eligible clients and develop individualized employment plans.
• Deliver group and one‑on‑one job‑readiness orientations focused on essential employability skills.
• Build and maintain relationships with local employers to identify suitable job opportunities.
• Match clients to openings, assist with applications, interviews, and hiring processes.
• Monitor placements, wages, and satisfaction; provide post‑placement support.
• Assist clients with Unemployment Insurance applications and weekly claims when applicable.
• Maintain accurate case notes, data entry, and required documentation such as employment vouchers.
• Participate in program meetings, trainings, and adhere to IRC policies on safeguarding and confidentiality.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, workforce development, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience may be considered.
• Minimum two years of case management, employment, job placement, or business experience in a social‑services setting.
• Experience working with vulnerable or underserved populations is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge of the U.S. job‑search process and ability to coach clients toward employment.
