About the role

The Electrical Maintenance Worker provides routine and preventative maintenance for Saint Louis University’s campus electrical systems. The role responds to service requests from faculty, staff and students, ensuring safe and reliable operation of building electrical infrastructure.

Key responsibilities

  • Perform service calls, prioritize work orders and escalate issues when needed.
  • Assist with general building maintenance including basic carpentry, painting, light HVAC, plumbing and electrical troubleshooting.
  • Install, maintain and repair electrical wiring, devices, fixtures, panels, breakers and disconnects in compliance with codes and university standards.
  • Service lighting systems, troubleshoot ballasts, drivers and fixtures, and maintain exterior lighting using a bucket truck.
  • Run conduit, pull wire, size loads, replace fuses and troubleshoot motor overloads and control circuits.
  • Support electrical aspects of HVAC and mechanical systems and read electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Maintain accurate service records and perform preventative maintenance routines.
  • Work outdoors and indoors in varying conditions, including climbing ladders and operating equipment up to 50 lb.

Required profile

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class E driver’s license.
  • Availability for 24/7 emergency response and willingness to work overtime.
  • Five or more years of experience maintaining electrical systems in a commercial or institutional environment.

  • Electrical wiring installation and repair.
  • Panel, breaker and disconnect service.
  • Lighting system maintenance and troubleshooting.
  • Conduit installation and wire pulling.
  • Bucket‑truck operation for exterior lighting work.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical diagrams and schematics.
  • Basic carpentry, painting, light HVAC and plumbing troubleshooting.
  • Motor overload and control circuit troubleshooting.
