Youth Program Specialist – Short‑Term (Humanitarian)

About the role

The Youth Program Specialist supports immigrant and refugee youth and their families as they adjust to life in the United States. Working closely with local schools, the specialist designs and delivers programs that promote school attendance, academic success, and community integration.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement after‑school, cultural enrichment, and tutoring activities for refugee children.
• Coordinate services with school systems to ensure families understand attendance and participation requirements.
• Orient newly arrived families to the U.S. public‑school system and relevant family‑law issues.
• Conduct pre‑ and post‑tests to assess family understanding of school expectations.
• Advocate for children experiencing abuse, neglect, or special‑education needs and refer to partner agencies.
• Provide guidance to school personnel on cultural and language needs of refugee families.
• Track student progress across grade levels and maintain accurate intake and service‑plan documentation.

Required profile

• Experience working with immigrant or refugee youth and families.
• Strong ability to build relationships with school staff, parents, and community partners.
• Knowledge of U.S. public‑school structures and family‑law considerations.
• Advocacy skills for vulnerable children and familiarity with special‑education processes.
