Laboratory Technician

About the role

We are looking for a Laboratory Technician to join Earth Sciences NZ’s commercial analytical laboratory supporting the renewable geothermal energy sector. The role offers the chance to apply and further develop analytical chemistry expertise while contributing to both domestic and international geothermal projects.

Key responsibilities

• Operate and maintain a range of modern analytical chemistry instruments to deliver high-quality results.
• Develop technical expertise through routine and advanced use of equipment such as Shimadzu GC-TCD, Metrohm/Mantech auto-titrators, SEAL Discrete Analyzer, Dionex/Metrohm ion chromatography, Shimadzu HPLC, and Thermo Fisher/Agilent ICP-OES and ICP-MS.
• Ensure compliance with ISO 17025 accreditation standards and laboratory quality systems.
• Accurately record data and maintain laboratory documentation.

Required profile

• Tertiary qualification in chemistry or a strong interest in analytical chemistry.
• Practical experience with laboratory equipment and procedures.
• Ability to work to strict ISO 17025 procedures and solve technical problems.
• Meticulous attention to detail and clear record-keeping.
• Effective communication and computer skills; experience with a Laboratory Information Management System is a plus.
• Good interpersonal skills and a customer-centric attitude.
