Interpreter I

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a dedicated Interpreter I to provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation services for Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals across a variety of settings. This position supports the organization’s humanitarian mission by facilitating communication between clients and service providers.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver in‑person, telephone, video‑conference, or other virtual interpretation for LEP clients in clinics, hospitals, schools, community organizations, and government agencies.
• Track all assignments and work hours using the designated software platform.
• Participate in regular trainings, assessments, and occasional special projects.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support service delivery.

Required profile

• High school diploma preferred; interpretation certification preferred.
• Relevant professional interpretation experience preferred, especially with refugee or immigrant populations.
• Strong ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and partners.
• Proficient in spoken and written English.
• Fluent in at least one of the client languages listed (e.g., Spanish, French, Arabic, Burmese, Swahili, Amharic, etc.).
• Attention to detail, reliable transportation, and basic computer proficiency.

• Use of assignment‑tracking software.
