Initial Resettlement Caseworker

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Initial Resettlement Caseworker to provide trauma‑informed support to refugees and eligible immigrants. The role focuses on helping clients achieve self‑sufficiency through coordinated services before and after arrival in the United States.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange pre‑ and post‑arrival services, including airport pick‑up, temporary and permanent housing, food, medical care, transportation, and orientation.
• Conduct intake assessments, develop individualized self‑sufficiency plans, and set SMART goals with each client.
• Deliver direct financial assistance, assist with public benefits applications, and refer clients to medical, mental health, and housing resources.
• Monitor client progress, address challenges, and ensure resources are utilized effectively.
• Document all client interactions in the ETO system and support tracking and reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with coworkers, partner agencies, and community service providers.
• Use personal or public transportation to travel within the service area as needed.
• Train and supervise volunteers and interns when required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field (preferred).
• Experience working with refugees, immigrants, or vulnerable populations.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a trauma‑informed approach.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
