Initial Resettlement Caseworker

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking an Initial Resettlement Caseworker to provide trauma‑informed support to refugees and qualified immigrants. The role focuses on ensuring a smooth transition to life in the United States by coordinating essential services and helping clients achieve self‑sufficiency.

Key responsibilities

• Arrange pre‑ and post‑arrival services such as airport pick‑up, temporary and permanent housing, food, medical care, and transportation.
• Conduct intake assessments, develop individualized self‑sufficiency plans and SMART goals with each client.
• Distribute direct financial assistance, assist with public benefits applications, and refer clients to medical, mental health, and housing resources.
• Monitor client progress, address challenges, and ensure resources are used effectively.
• Document all client interactions in the ETO system and support tracking and reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with coworkers, partner organizations, and local service providers.
• Use personal or public transportation to travel within the service area as needed.
• Train and supervise volunteers and interns when required.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field (preferred).
• Experience working with refugees, immigrants, or vulnerable populations is advantageous.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with clients.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
