Finance Assistant

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Finance Assistant to support day‑to‑day financial operations in its field office. Reporting to the Finance Officer, you will help implement finance policies, ensure compliance, and contribute to the organization’s mission of delivering humanitarian assistance worldwide.

Key responsibilities

• Process payments to suppliers, contractors, and program staff in line with approved documents and authority limits.
• Check and reconcile travel reports and civil‑law contract work statements.
• Verify invoices for accuracy and receipt of goods before payment.
• Prepare cash vouchers and ensure all transactions follow IRC accounting policy, donor restrictions, and GAAP.
• Maintain confidentiality of financial information and ensure proper filing of documents.
• Execute day‑to‑day financial transactions and internal control procedures per IRC SOPs.
• Submit payment batches to the bank for processing.
• Review budgets and funding allocations to guide proper coding and program guidance.
• Provide finance‑related training to program staff and follow updated SOPs.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required profile

• Diploma in Accounts or a bachelor’s degree in accounting from a recognized institution.
• Minimum of two years of accounting experience.
• Strong computer literacy with significant experience in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work under pressure, organize work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage time effectively.
• Excellent interpersonal skills with the capacity to coach and support colleagues.
