Economic Empowerment Summer Intern (Unpaid)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Summer 2026 Economic Empowerment Intern to support refugees in achieving economic self‑sufficiency. This unpaid position provides hands‑on experience working with the Economic Empowerment and Resettlement teams.

Key responsibilities

• Assist caseworkers in gathering documentation for public benefits applications.
• Transport clients to DCBS offices, job interviews, and pre‑employment screenings.
• Help clients overcome barriers such as obtaining state IDs, opening bank accounts, and navigating public transportation.
• Create individualized resumes and cover letters, locate job leads, and complete applications with clients.
• Connect clients to community resources like LIHEAP, food pantries, and maternal‑infant services.
• Maintain accurate case files, notes, and conduct regular case reviews.
• Perform other duties as assigned to ensure seamless service delivery.

Required profile

• Passionate about humanitarian work and supporting refugee integration.
• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse client groups.
• Willingness to travel locally with clients and handle confidential documentation.
• Interest in learning US resettlement processes and public benefit programs.
