Blasting Assistant

About the role

The Blasting Assistant supports the Blaster in daily mining operations, ensuring safe and accurate execution of blasting tasks. This position involves hands‑on work in the field, collaborating with truck operators, senior management, and support teams.

Key responsibilities

• Measure and verify product placement before delivery down the hole.
• Check final stemming and maintain measuring equipment.
• Select and inspect twine to prevent over‑charging of holes.
• Assist truck operators with calibration of raw materials, twine, Samson sample scale, and measuring tape.
• Clean calibration equipment and maintain the calibration area.
• Lubricate movable truck parts, clean strainers, and perform minor maintenance such as tyre, rotor, and stator changes.
• Ensure all safety and regulatory requirements are met.

Required profile

• Grade 12 education with Mathematics.
• Valid Code B driver’s licence.
• Certificate of Conduct (Police).
• At least 2 years of experience as a blasting assistant or equivalent mining/blasting experience.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
