Senior WASH Officer

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Senior WASH Officer to lead and supervise the implementation of water, sanitation and hygiene activities in humanitarian contexts. This senior position provides technical leadership, supports community volunteers, and ensures effective coordination of WASH projects.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and supervise all planned WASH activities and act as the focal point for the IRC WASH department.
• Provide technical support to Hygiene Promoters and Community WASH Facilitators for design, installation, and maintenance of WASH infrastructure.
• Develop Bills of Quantities, design drawings, specifications and participate in procurement for WASH facilities.
• Conduct technical surveys, site visits and select locations for construction or renovation of WASH infrastructure.
• Design and implement behaviour‑change approaches to promote community participation in WASH management.
• Coordinate data collection, monitoring, and reporting, and raise risks or issues to the WASH Manager.
• Support capacity building of community WASH volunteers and provide basic training on HBCC, mobilisation and participatory methods.
• Oversee recruitment, stipend payments and timesheet management for Community WASH Facilitators.

Required profile

• Significant experience in WASH programming within humanitarian or development settings.
• Proven ability to lead technical teams and supervise field activities.
• Experience in community mobilisation, behaviour‑change strategies and capacity building.
• Strong analytical skills for surveys, data collection and risk management.
