Immigration Legal Services Intern

About the role

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is seeking an Immigration Legal Services Intern to support its immigration legal team. This position offers hands‑on exposure to U.S. immigration processes while contributing to the IRC’s mission of assisting refugees, asylees, and other immigrants.

Key responsibilities

• Assist clients during intake and help complete USCIS forms such as adjustment of status, naturalization, and family reunification applications.
• Organize, file, and mail supporting documents, applications, and notices of action while maintaining accurate immigration databases.
• Coordinate translation services to ensure clients receive information in a language they understand.
• Conduct client interviews, develop trust, and identify any red‑flag issues.
• Support special research projects and other tasks assigned by immigration staff.

Required profile

• Interest or prior experience working with refugees, immigrants, or nonprofit legal services.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast‑paced environment.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
• Quick learner of immigration procedures and policies.
• Proficiency in maintaining clear case notes and records.
