Caseworker (for Older Refugees)

About the role

The International Rescue Committee seeks a dedicated Caseworker to provide trauma‑informed, aging‑sensitive case management for older refugees and qualified immigrants. You will help clients navigate U.S. systems, overcome barriers such as chronic health issues, language gaps, and social isolation, and work toward long‑term well‑being and integration.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct culturally and linguistically appropriate intake assessments covering health, housing, income, legal status, and social support.
• Develop and regularly update individualized service plans with measurable goals (e.g., SSI application, Medicaid enrollment, naturalization).
• Assist clients in accessing benefits, healthcare, housing, legal aid, and mental‑health resources, including documentation support and accompaniment to appointments.
• Apply trauma‑informed and aging‑sensitive approaches that respect client pace, preferences, and dignity.
• Ensure language access using interpreters, translated materials, and plain‑language tools.
• Provide transportation assistance through bus passes, volunteer drivers, or home visits and help clients navigate local systems.
• Conduct regular follow‑ups, adjust service plans as needed, and maintain accurate case notes in data systems.
• Build and maintain partnerships with community‑based organizations.
