American Sign Language Interpreter

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is looking for a qualified American Sign Language Interpreter to provide accurate, impartial, and confidential interpretation for limited‑English‑proficient individuals. The role supports a variety of settings—including clinics, schools, community organizations, and government agencies—and may be performed in‑person, by telephone, video‑conference, or other virtual means.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver accurate, impartial, and confidential ASL interpretation for clients and service providers across multiple environments.
• Provide interpretation in‑person, via telephone, videoconference, or other virtual platforms as needed.
• Track assignments and work hours using designated software.
• Participate in trainings, assessments, and occasional special projects.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, including field visits and weekend or evening work when required.

Required profile

• High school diploma strongly preferred; interpretation certification preferred.
• Relevant professional interpretation experience preferred.
• Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations strongly preferred.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Fluent American Sign Language interpretation skills.
• Reliable transportation to appointment locations.
