Busara is a leading behavioral science organization in the Global South, where we apply behavioral science to help alleviate poverty through advisory work and original academic research.
We are a non-profit organization based in Nairobi, Kenya, and have offices and projects across the Global South. We also run the most extensive behavioral science research lab in the world, including mobile labs and partnerships with universities worldwide.
Role Purpose
The Senior Research Specialist supports the research and consulting arms of Busara by leading the design, planning, analysis, presentation, and publication of research projects. On the research arm of Busara, projects are led by the Director; on the consulting arm, they are led by an Engagement Director.
This position is situated in the Research and Advisory division of Busara with the CREME (Culture, Research Ethics, and Methods) meta-research team, and focuses on CREME’s methods agenda. The CREME team conducts internally-initiated research projects and collaborates with other verticals and divisions within Busara on joint initiatives. The methods agenda focuses on evaluating the methodological tradeoffs of different research decisions and developing new best practices in Global South settings, though each CREME team member collaborates with both other members of CREME and people in other divisions. Day to day, research specialists within CREME lead many aspects of research, particularly planning, designing, implementing, and analyzing lab experiments and field randomized controlled trials, conducting literature reviews, developing interventions, analyzing data, preparing academic papers and online content, and contributing miscellaneous research support such as budgeting, writing grants, preparing IRBs, and liaising with research partners.
Senior Research specialists are Busara’s subject matter experts on experimental design and provide a technical core to project teams to ensure high standards of rigor on research projects. This post is particularly appropriate for candidates with deep backgrounds in either quantitative or qualitative social science.
