Instrument Technician – Laboratory (Lower Hutt)

About the role

Join AsureQuality’s fast‑paced laboratory team in Lower Hutt, Wellington as an Instrument Technician. You will operate and maintain a state‑of‑the‑art chromatography instrument fleet, supporting food safety testing across New Zealand.

Key responsibilities

• Operate liquid chromatography (LC) and gas chromatography (GC) instruments for routine food safety analyses.
• Perform routine maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of analytical equipment.
• Ensure all work complies with ISO 17025 quality standards and WorkSafe Act 2015 safety requirements.
• Document test results and instrument performance in accordance with laboratory procedures.
• Collaborate with scientists and team members to support timely delivery of test results.

Required profile

• A passion for science, chemistry and environmental issues.
• Hands‑on mechanical aptitude for problem solving.
• Knowledge of chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.
• Experience in a fast‑paced, communicative environment (preferred but not mandatory).
• Excellent attention to detail and strong written and verbal communication.
• Tertiary education in Chemistry or a related field is valued.
• Prior experience with LC or GC instrumentation is advantageous.
