Housing Specialist

About the role

The International Rescue Committee is seeking a Housing Specialist to secure safe, sanitary, and affordable housing for newly arriving refugees. You will act as a key liaison between clients, landlords, and internal teams to ensure a smooth resettlement experience.

Key responsibilities

• Identify and secure appropriate housing that meets program requirements.
• Conduct outreach to landlords and property managers to expand housing options.
• Coordinate logistics of housing set‑ups, including furniture ordering, utility connections, lease signings, payments, and safety inspections.
• Implement procurement protocols, research vendors, and maintain required documentation.
• Deliver client orientations and support pre‑ and post‑arrival activities such as airport pick‑ups.
• Maintain accurate records and travel within the service area using a personal or public vehicle.
• Train and supervise support staff, volunteers, and interns as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 1 year of relevant professional experience.
• Experience working with refugee or immigrant populations is a plus.
• Strong relationship‑building, diplomacy, and networking abilities.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
• Self‑starter with excellent problem‑solving, multitasking, and prioritisation skills.
